3 Power Options for Motorised Blinds

by Robert Mitchelle

Are you wondering about which motorised blinds to buy for your new home? Read on and discover the different ways through which the motors of those blinds can be powered. Use this information to select the right power source for your needs.

Battery-Powered Blinds Some motorised blinds rely on batteries for their operation. Such motors may be the most affordable to buy because you will not have to incur the cost of buying additional materials (wires, for example) during the installation exercise. It may also be possible for you to get a motor whose batteries can be charged through solar energy. Such batteries can lower your total cost of ownership because you won't have to buy replacement batteries as often as another person who bought disposable batteries.

Wired Blinds Another motor option that you can consider is the wired motors. Such systems have a central location to which lines run from each blind. That central location has a power hub that supplies power to the entire network of motorised blinds. This type of motor may be the most costly of all available options. This is because extra costs, such as drilling through walls and running wires to the different locations where you have installed blinds, have to be met. However, wired blinds are the most aesthetic option because all the hardware, such as the wires, is hidden inside the walls of your home. Wired systems are also more reliable because they are less prone to failures due to the careful planning that goes into their installation.

Plug-In Blinds You can also consider buying plug-in motors for your blinds in case you are interested in a hassle-free installation. These motors can use the power available through the existing wall outlets in your home. However, you will need to find clever ways to hide the power cords running from the wall sockets to the location of the different motors that you have installed. For instance, you can hide those cables behind furniture or draperies. Another possible drawback of these motors is that the cables are of a limited length. You may therefore be compelled to use extension cords in case the location of the motors is far from the nearest power outlets.

Think about your needs and select a power option that will address those needs. Contact suppliers of motorised blinds for additional advice in case you are unable to make a final decision about the best power source for your motorised blinds.
