Reasons to Opt for Vertical Blinds on Large Windows and Doors

by Robert Mitchelle

Large, expansive windows and doors leading to a patio bring the garden inside as they let you enjoy the greenery. However, you'll want to protect the window to block the light and create privacy at times. You might briefly consider roller or Venetian blinds. However, they don't provide all the benefits of vertical blinds. Here are several reasons to go with this option.

Sleek Appearance

The structure of vertical blinds ideally suits extended windows and doors. These coverings consist of a headrail to which the vertical slats are attached. Thus, you can cover an entire wall of windows with the sleek look of a continuous blind. Even if you use more than one headrail for vertical blinds, you can join them seamlessly, as the vertical slat design will simply be repeated. On the other hand, if you fit roller or Venetian blinds, you'll probably need several to protect a broad area. And the division between each one will be apparent, creating a cluttered look.

Light Control

Vertical blinds also let you control the light and privacy in different ways. You can angle the slats with a wand to let filtered sunlight beams warm a room. You can also draw the slats to the side, partially or fully. When vertical blinds are open, they stack neatly to the side of the window and don't take up much space. This contrasts with curtains that are relatively bulky even when drawn open.

Creates Spaciousness

The vertical emphasis of these blinds creates an attractive, elegant look. Plus, it tends to make a ceiling appear higher and a room seem bigger as a result. Some people try to create a similar effect by painting vertical wall stripes. But you can achieve it simply with your choice of blinds.

Design Options

Another reason to consider installing these window coverings is that you'll have plenty of design options to consider. You could choose a uniform beige, cream, or grey that blends with the walls. Or, install contrasting navy or bright green vertical blinds. You'll also have a range of patterns to consider, including botanical and abstract designs. The slats are also made of various fabrics and vinyl. Some designs use floaty, sheer, curtain-like panels as well. You could install a blind with slats that aren't connected along the bottom. That way, you can walk through it at any point if it's covering an open glass door. With roller and Venetian blinds, you'd have to open or duck underneath them.
